| Dear Mylene,
We are writing to you in support of our
friends John Heilman, Abbe Land and Sal Guarriello. As you
may know, the City of West Hollywood will hold its election
Tuesday, March 6th 2007, and we urge all of you to join
us in voting for them.
John, Abbe and Sal are proven, progressive leaders for
our city. They are champions for affordable housing and
have crafted some of the strongest renter-protection laws
in the country. John, Abbe and Sal were instrumental in
the creation of the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation,
a non-profit organization that has created hundreds of affordable
housing units for seniors and people living with disabilities.

As co-Director of the Los Angeles Free Clinic, Abbe has
helped provide free medical and dental care to thousands
of local residents who could not otherwise afford it. John
Heilman is likewise fighting to help those in need, currently
leading an initiative to end hunger in West Hollywood. As
a decorated Purple Heart Veteran, Sal has fought to ensure
that all our veterans are remembered and looked after, and
founded the West Hollywood Veterans Memorial. All three
have helped create West Hollywood's network of social services
for seniors, families, LGBT residents and people living
with HIV/AIDS.
John, Abbe and Sal have been in the forefront of the fight
for equality for over 20 years. John is a law professor
who is a past president of the ACLU Gay and Lesbian Rights
Chapter. All three have fought to enact model domestic partnership
and anti-discrimination legislation. Abbe helped the City
of West Hollywood to become the first government agency
in the United States to provide its employees with funding
for healthcare coverage for domestic partners. When a young
gay man was brutally beaten, Sal was a prominent voice calling
on the District Attorney to file hate crime charges. After
charges were not filed, Sal led efforts to hold the District
Attorney responsible.
John, Abbe and Sal are constantly working to preserve the
character that makes West Hollywood such an extraordinary
city. All three were essential to the creation of the Children's
Roundtable, a monthly meeting bringing together local schools,
service providers, law enforcement and city leaders to coordinate
community resources available for children and families.
Abbe helped establish the award-winning Light up a Library
program, which stocks school libraries with new books and
provides trained volunteers to work with students during
and after school. John Heilman established the West Hollywood
Book Fair to promote reading, writing and literacy in the
city and provide a venue for community groups and stores.
Sal authored the anti-cruising ordinance along Sunset that
has proven to be key in combating gridlock and has advocated
the reduction of speed limits in residential neighborhoods
to preserve neighborhood quality of life.
We hope you will join us, the West Hollywood Democratic
Club, Stonewall Democratic Club, the Los Angeles County
Democratic Party, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Los Angeles
County Firefighters Local 1014, Los Angeles County Federation
of Labor, and the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs
in supporting John Heilman, Abbe Land and Sal Guarriello
for re-election on March 6th.
Thank you for your support and friendship.
