Hi!
I'm Alison
Gordon. I started training
with Doug
Kraft 6 years ago when he
went to work at Beverly Hills Health
and Fitness. I was looking
for a new trainer because the fellow
with whom I had been training for
ten years(!) was moving out of the
area. I was scoping
out the other trainers at BHHF and
could see he was the one who knew
how to teach what he knows.
He was especially focused on form
and breathing techniques and had
a wide repertoire of exercise routines.
Boredom is not in his vocabulary.
I represent the longest relationship
he's ever had with a woman!
(teehee!)
We focus on core, strength and cardio
training 3 days a week and I work
on my own cardio/stretch regimen
3 days a week. On the seventh
day, I rest.
My workouts keep me energized and
focused for the rest of my long
days, teaching clients and dealing
with those difficult insurance companies.
Weight lifting taught me to push
through the struggle. I know
that if I can do five more reps,
I can do anything! Even
when I think I can't.
This is a picture of me 7 years
ago... pre the menopause weight
gain! Doug has put up
with me during some very difficult
hormonal years and has supported
me the entire journey.
Bless his little heart!
IS
FIGURING OUT YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE
MAKING YOU SICK?
Outside of TRAIN, I'm a 17-year
veteran broker on the frontlines
of California medical insurance,
I know my HMOs from my PPOs - and
my generic from my brand-name drugs
(but more on those topics when we
talk).
Health insurance fun?
No way!!! I'm here to help you tiptoe
through the minefield of group and
individual benefits.
Everything in life should be fun
and easy. While I can't make health
insurance fun, I can make it easy.
(FYI: I'm both!)
Did you know that under California
State Law, every small business
is guaranteed group health benefits
at a reasonable cost?
That's right - guaranteed!
Talk to me and we'll unravel all
the mysteries of group benefits
and how they can help you and your
business. I can even
help you sort out your existing
plan. And once we've
got your plan in perfect order,
you can count on my continued service
- you're always welcome to call

ESTATE NEWS

As
some of you may already know, the
White House and a coalition of bankers
released a plan Thursday to deal
aggressively with the mortgage crisis,
which is increasingly becoming a
political issue.
The initiative would hold down rates
for certain subprime mortgages,
which
are loans offered to borrowers with
spotty credit histories. The freeze
will
be available only to home owners
who have not fallen behind on their
payments at the lower introductory
rates and who are living in the
homes.
This requirement would exclude people
who bought investment properties
hoping to profit from the housing
boom.
Also excluded are people who can
afford the higher payments. The
administration expects these people
will move as soon as they can to
refinance to more affordable fixed-rate
loans.
The administration said its plan
could help 1.2 million home owners
either
through a freeze or by helping owners
refinance. The Center for Responsible
Lending, which battles predatory
lending, estimates that only 145,000
home
owners would qualify for the freeze
because the criteria are too narrow.
Please feel free to contact me if
you're interested in discussing
how this
may affect you!

A Night to Remember - a smashing
success!
Don Scott, organizer of
Doug
Blasdell's charity event
last month is excited to report
the fantastic turnout and fundraising
results of A
Night to Remember:
"I'm
very excited to tell you that
your generosity resulted in raising
$32,000 for the 1st Annual
Douglas Blasdell Outreach Program
Charity Event. Thank you
very much for attending and supporting
this Program. You will receive
information regarding upcoming
events in the future. If
you have any questions, please
call or email me or the LACC Foundation."
Peace
and Love,
Don
It was a fun-filled night next
door at Republic
with our very own DJ
Paolo Gois spinning the
beats and many familiar gym faces
(and bods!) turning up for the
merriment. Yours truly,
the silent auction addict, came
away with 2 nights at the Bellagio
courtesy of Brian
Aidem, another TRAINster,
as well as a 6-month membership
at Golds Gym (huh?!) What
was I thinking? It must
have been the free-flowing vodka
and the celebrity wattage provided
by our very own Marc
Cherry, Doug's previous
client and current uber show runner
and creator of Desperate
Housewives, Jody
Watley, another client
of Doug's and the amazing-looking
cast of Workout.
Thank you, Don, for organizing
such an enjoyable event and for
all y'all who did your part in
donating much-needed funds and
silent auction items for Doug's
outreach program. It would
have been a night Doug himself
would have reveled in and remembered!
This handsome picture of Doug
(when was he never handsome?!)
was taken on his last birthday
party last year at Marc's house.
This was the last time many of
us, including myself, saw our
dear, beautiful friend.

Diet Digest
After reading this, you'll
never look at a banana in the
same way again.
Bananas contain three natural
sugars - sucrose, fructose and
glucose combined with fiber. A
banana gives an instant, sustained
and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just
two bananas provide enough energy
for a strenuous 90-minute workout.
No wonder the banana is the number
one fruit with the world's leading
athletes.
But energy isn't the only way
a banana can help us keep fit.
It can also help overcome or prevent
a substantial number of illnesses
and conditions, making it a must
to add to our daily diet.
Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken
by MIND amongst people suffering
from depression, many felt much
better after eating a banana.
This is because bananas contain
tryptophan, a type of protein
that the body converts into serotonin,
known to make you relax, improve
your mood and generally make you
feel happier.
PMS:
Forget the pills - eat a banana.
The vitamin B6 it contains regulates
blood glucose levels, which can
affect your mood.
Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate
the production of hemoglobin in
the blood and so helps in cases
of anemia.
Blood
Pressure: This unique tropical
fruit is extremely high in potassium
yet low in salt, making it perfect
to beat blood pressure. So much
so, the US Food and Drug Administration
has just allowed the banana industry
to make official claims for the
fruit's ability to reduce the
risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain
Power: 200 students at
a Twickenham (Middlesex) school
(England) were helped through
their exams this year by eating
bananas at breakfast, break, and
lunch in a bid to boost their
brain power. Research has shown
that the potassium-packed fruit
can assist learning by making
pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including
bananas in the diet can help restore
normal bowel action, helping to
overcome the problem without resorting
to laxatives.
Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing
a hangover is to make a banana
milkshake, sweetened with honey.
The banana calms the stomach and,
with the help of the honey, builds
up depleted blood sugar levels,
while the milk soothes and re-hydrates
your system.
Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid
effect in the body, so if you
suffer from heartburn, try eating
a banana for soothing relief.
Morning
Sickness: Snacking on bananas
between meals helps to keep blood
sugar levels up and avoid morning
sickness.
Mosquito
Bites: Before reaching
for the insect bite cream, try
rubbing the affected area with
the inside of a banana skin. Many
people find it amazingly successful
at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins
that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight
and at work? Studies at
the Institute of Psychology in
Austria found pressure at work
leads to gorging on comfort food
like chocolate and chips. Looking
at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers
found the most obese were more
likely to be in high-pressure
jobs. The report concluded that,
to avoid panic-induced food cravings,
we need to control our blood sugar
levels by snacking on high carbohydrate
foods every two hours to keep
levels steady.
Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary
food against intestinal disorders
because of its soft tex ture and
smoothness. It is the only raw
fruit that can be eaten without
distress in over-chronicler cases.
It also neutralizes over-acidity
and reduces irritation by coating
the lining of the stomach.
Temperature
control: Many other cultures
see bananas as a "cooling" fruit
that can lower both the physical
and emotional temperature of expectant
mothers. In Thailand, for example,
pregnant women eat bananas to
ensure their baby is born with
a cool temperature.
Seasonal
Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers
because they contain the natural
mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking
&Tobacco Use: Bananas
can also help people trying to
give up smoking. The B6, B12 they
contain, as well as the potassium
and magnesium found in them, help
the body recover from the effects
of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral,
which helps normalize the heartbeat,
sends oxygen to the brain and
regulates your body's water balance.
When we are stressed, our metabolic
rate rises, thereby reducing our
potassium levels. These can be
rebalanced with the help of a
high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes:
According to research in
The New England Journal of Medicine,
eating bananas as part of a regular
diet can cut the risk of death
by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts:
Those keen on natural alternatives
swear that if you want to kill
off a wart, take a piece of banana
skin and place it on the wart,
with the yellow side out. Carefully
hold the skin in place with a
plaster or surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural
remedy for many ills. When you
compare it to an apple, it has
four times the protein, twice
the carbohydrate, three times
the phosphorus, five times the
vitamin A and iron, and twice
the other vitamins and minerals.
It is also rich in potassium and
is one of the best value foods
around So maybe its time to change
that well-known phrase so that
we say, "A banana a day keeps
the doctor away!"
PS: Bananas must be the reason
monkeys are so happy all the time!
I will add one here; want a quick
shine on our shoes?? Take the
INSIDE of the banana skin, and
rub directly on the shoe...polish
with dry cloth. Amazing fruit!

Spin Cycle
Our
latest dispatch from Minter,
our SPIN
Program Director
The
Hum of the Bikes
TUESDAYS,
THURSDAYs 9:00AM
HIS
NAME JEFF "PAINFULLY FUN" DALY
What I find fascinating about taking
each instructor's spin class is
getting inside their minds and finding
out why they teach. It isn't often
you make a living teaching spin
so why does each teacher continue
to teach besides the obvious "the
endorphine high" HA! NO, the workout.
Each instructor seems to have something
that they truly love that makes
their class their own. What
Jeff
Daly loves is the hum of
all the bikes as his students pedal
fast during a quiet moment in the
music. Since I rarely look up from
the bike, I imagine that his eyes
are closed as he listens for that
moment-the moment that makes spinning
constructive for Jeff-a sound I
have always thought should be harnessed
and put to electrical use in our
homes somehow! My take isn't quite
as profound.
He
will then inspire you to push through
your S**T almost as if he is also
saying it to himself and just when
you think he has to be running out
of energy, he will announce "I have
been born again" and off you go
once more. And when you think you
have nothing left, he will say,
"give me one more pedal stroke like
it is my birthday and it is all
I want!" So he gets his present
and you get the results.
His play list consisted of:
Gwen Steffani
Will.I.Am
Kanye West
Linkin Park
Kid Rock
Pink
Bone Thugs and Harmony
Drowning Pool (the "Let the Bodies
Hit the Floor" song)
Rhianna
Tori Amos (cooldown)
Crystal Method
Britney Spears (I think I played
this "Gimme More")
He will even play songs he knows
people like when they are in class.
He played Let the bodies hit the
floor for me! Thanks Jeff!
THE
EVOLUTION OF SPIN FRIDAYS 5:30PM
Welcome our newest instructor LISA
NATALE
I would say in Los Angeles
spinning started at Train
when it was called Todd Tramps.
Debbie
Rocker, Andrea Lawent and Janet
Fitzgerald taught me. We
road the bikes like we were riding
on the road. They call that type
of class a road rider class. Spinning
has evolved into more positions
atop the bike. Something I am NOT
trained to do and do it badly. I
like to think it is because I have
short arms! HA! Excuses excuses!
After introducing myself to our
newest spin teacher Lisa Natale.
I asked if she does the positions
on the bike. She does but, she describes
almost every moment of the change
in position to a meticulously choreographed
45 minute spin class. You have to
pay attention to every word. She
teaches spin to purge herself and
her students into an explosive transformation.
She does this in such a nurturing
way. There is no time to think.
The class flies by and by the end
I, with my short arm impediment,
was doing all the positions atop
the bike. I felt like I got a great
upper body work out as well! She
teaches at gyms all over LA but
we got lucky. She can walk
to our gym to transform your life!
Please welcome her!!!
Her play list consists of:
Annie Lennox
Ashley Macisaac
KT Tunstall
Mika
Gym Class Heroes
Amy Winehouse
Jem
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Fort Minor featuring Holly Brook
and Jonah Matranga
the Killers
Rancid
Spoon
maroon 5
Shout out louds
Timbaland
She will be taking over my Wednesday
night 6:30 class while I am gone
for the Holidays
|
|
|
So show up! You've conquered
half the battle by being here
right now. Stay tuned for
our special holiday hours and
SPIN schedule over Christmas and
New Years.
Sincerely,
Mylene Dane
